Mary Ellen Dorey
Founder, Dorey AromaTherapy

Mary Ellen Dorey’s quest for improving the health and vitality began in her early teens due to her family’s persistent illnesses. Her interest in complementary health therapies grew while at she attended Buffalo State College and The Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC. She discovered aromatherapy while working full-time for a multi-billion-dollar retailer, heading up quality assurance and customer relations.
Capitalizing on her 25-year background in retail management, consumer lab testing, technical design, and quality control, Mary Ellen became registered by the Aromatherapy Registration Council (ARC) and founded Dorey AromaTherapy in 2009. Mary Ellen incorporates her unique aromatherapy formulations into her practice of European and Ayurvedic styles of reflexology and Energy Healing offered in Plano, TX with a wealth of knowledge and professional experience.
Dorey AromaTherapy was created to showcase exclusive proprietary formulations using the highest quality organic and wild-crafted essential oils and botanicals. Using only the purest ingredients, Mary Ellen researches and tests numerous blends to create an extensive line of WellCare, BodyCare, and SkinCare aromatherapy based products under the Dorey AromaTherapy brand, all designed to achieve optimal wellness. In addition she also created a Natural perfume line Dorey Perfume which provides a chemical-free alternative to add scent to your personal allure. Mary Ellen also offers custom aromatherapy blends to address specific issues unique to each client via Zoom, or FaceTime. Additionally, she offers aromatherapy seminars and training.
In addition to her clinical grade formulations, she introduced “Message In A Bubble ®” Bath Fizzies and Sugar Scrubs which garnered rave reviews in Retailing Insights, The Dallas Morning News and Women’s Wear Daily. She was featured in The Dallas Morning News Small Business Buzz: The Five in March 2013 and in The Plano Star Courier Five on Three in January 2014. She is frequently featured in numerous consumer blogs, both locally and nationally including The Wall Street Journal and USA Today. She is also a frequent contributor to Dermascope Magazine.
Education…
Mary Ellen’s journey to expand and deepen her skills in aromatherapy and wellness, have taken her to New York, California, Florida, Colorado, England, France and Bavaria to study with industry leaders such as Dr. Kurt Schnaubelt, Dr. Peter Holmes, Andrea Butje, Dr. Robert Tisserand, Colleen Quinn, Joy Muscchio and others. She has studied perfumery with Dr. Lyn Ayre, Lucy Miller and recently, the Scents of Ancient Egypt with Dora Goldsmith from Berlin. She is active in the Alliance of International Aromatherapists (AIA) acting as the Global Representative and Secretary for the Dallas Holistic Chamber of Commerce.
“It is important to me that there is quality training in the field of aromatherapy”, Mary Ellen said. “Using quality oils safely is paramount. There are a lot of well-intentioned but uninformed people using essential oils in questionable ways. I want to help people to understand the properties of the oils and how to use them safely.”
A Word about Quality…
Dorey AromaTherapy uses only the finest quality ingredients in all our products. All essential oils used are first distillation or first pressing steam distilled oils, CO2 extracts, or enfleurage oils. They are pure and authentic coming directly from the growers (not remixed by brokers). They are grown wild, organically, or commercially cultivated without pesticides, minimally harvested and processed quickly to insure maximum effectiveness. Our Natural Perfumes also incorporate absolutes and concrete botanicals for the clearest scents possible.
All other components in our formulas are also as pure as well can get them. Carrier oils used are from seeds (not nuts) and always cold pressed (avoiding expeller pressed, except in rare circumstances when that is the only way the oil can be extracted) and organic.
Even our bottles and jars are selected with care. All bottles used are pharmaceutical grade glass with phenolic caps, or airless pump jars and bottles using essential oil resistant PET plastic. Of course, all are recyclable.
Packaging is tricky. While our preference would be all glass, the use of plastic is more practical in many situations. (Think of a salt or sugar scrub in the shower, for instance. Glass is impractical and potentially unsafe). Sadly, many bio-degradable options are cost prohibitive. Cardboard lip balm tubes cost twice-three times more than the ingredients and labor! We continue to evaluate options.
