Why it is Important to Use Essential Oils Sparingly

Essential Oils are the basis for aromatherapy. How they are grown, harvested and distilled are important for our environment as well as for the end user.
We at Dorey Aromatherapy are judicious at working with ethical vendors who are committed to respecting the plant world. Many essential oil companies encourage their customers to purchase more and more essential oils but here at Dorey AromaTherapy, we know how important it is to be good stewards of the plants and land.
Overharvesting, chemical fertilizers, pesticides and pollution have degraded the soils throughout the world. Many of the wild harvested plants used for essential oils (a labor-intensive hand process of cultivation) have declined.
Global weather pattern changes (droughts, flooding, extreme temperatures) have altered the growing seasons and reduced yields of plant material to be harvested for essential oil productions.
Did you know that it takes up to 60 rose heads to make 1 drop of rose essential oil?
And that it takes 2000 pounds of lavender plants to create 1 liter of lavender essential oil?
Knowing this helps in your understanding of why essential oils are so expensive.
Many of the wood oils such as sandalwood, agarwood, palo santo, copaiba balsam and rosewood take upwards of 30 years to grow the tree to maturity for it to be harvested to get the heartwood that is then distilled to create these powerful, amazing essential oils.
Many of the plants we know, love and use are now on the endangered species list as a result of overharvesting.
Less is more when using any essential oils!
We intentionally choose to source our oils from vendors who have a deep respect for the plant world and the land. One vendor we work with from Utah creates the most beautiful coniferous essential oils. He will not cut down trees to use for distillation. Rather, he waits until the branches fall to the forest floor via storm or strong winds and then collects them for distillation.
We at Dorey AromaTherapy are committed to sourcing and utilizing all our essential oils (and other botanicals) in the most judicious, ethical manner possible.
Summer is Winding Down

On the calendar, summer is coming to a close. While we probably have another 4-6 weeks of hot weather here in North Texas, for most people, fall is on its way.
Summer is one of my favorite times of the year!
This summer I made it back to Minneapolis (where I used to live) and where my daughter now resides.
It was great to spend time with her and to see several dear friends.
On the balcony in Minneapolis with my husband and daughter eating one of the best meals I have ever had! She and her boyfriend made us authentic Japanese Hibachi with course after course of delicately sauced, deliciously served fresh vegetables, tuna and meats. We finished with fresh lychee nuts.
I still wake up wishing that I could have that meal again!!
While in Minneapolis, Dorey AromaTherapy participated in the Minnesota Street Rod Association (MSRA) Ladies Showcase as well as presenting Aromatherapy for a Healthier You. I met some lovely people! (and my husband got to see a huge variety of vintage cars!)
September is Self-Care Awareness Month |
Evolve to Live founded Self-Care Awareness Month to raise awareness of the incredible benefits of individual self-care. When practiced regularly, self-care creates significant personal, social, and economic benefits. The Registrar at National Day Calendar declared Self-Care Awareness Month to be observed annually in September beginning in 2017. What daily self-care rituals do you follow? How have they impacted your overall well-being? The older I get the more time I spend on self-care. Pilates, dry brushing, skincare, nutritionally dense herbal drinks and vitamins, morning gratitude and mindfulness and hot jasmine tea make up my daily self-care ritual. What do you do to take care of yourself everyday? September 5-Labor Day I hope you take time off this coming weekend, reflect on all your accomplishments, both big and small and get in some good food and laughs with friends! September 8th – International Day of Charity Who will you support this year? Dorey AromaTherapy supports The Dallas Opera. The Dallas Opera is a world-class performing arts organization producing outstanding mainstage and chamber opera repertoire; attracting national and international attention; committed to extensive community outreach and education; and managed to the highest possible standards of artistic excellence, accountability, efficiency, and financial sustainability. I also support the Dallas Opera Guild with its annual search for new talent. Aspiring opera singers from all over the world compete for cash prizes annually. It has been inspiring to see a previous year’s winner grace the stage in a production. Although I am just an audience member, I feel a sense of pride in their accomplishment! Enjoy your month of transition into fall. Know that we have lots of products to help you through those pesky seasonal allergies, emotional upsets, or general malaise. Just drop us a line. And don’t forget the importance of daily maintenance to keep your energy strong and your spirits high! Be well, |
